The Mastermind GT is the result of years of research and development, using modern technology to create what we believe is the best MIDI foot controller ever made. It's popular with guitarists, DJs, keyboardists, producers and more. The Mastermind GT series is very popular with Kemper and Fractal Axe-Fx users, and we're also seeing quite a few users running it with Ableton, Logic and other DAW software.

By adding a display over every button, we've made it possible to have a fully configurable MIDI controller. Any button can be assigned to any function, and colors and button text are fully configurable by the user. Buttons can send multiple MIDI messages of several types, and there can be up to 16 pages of buttons so you will always have access to all of the functions your rig has available.

Add in other features such as user upgradeable firmware, USB thumb drive support and built-in support for many popular MIDI devices, and you can see why there has been so much buzz about this product.

Features:

  • 22 buttons, with an LCD display over every button. Any button can be set to perform any function (preset, IA, bank up/down, tap tempo, etc.) and the LCD will indicate what the button does. No more board tape!
  • A large main LCD display shows the preset number, preset name and/or song name
  • Standard MIDI In and Out ports, plus 6-pin XLR ports for connecting to our Rack Gizmo, Effect Gizmo and future products
  • Phantom power capability allows you to run the Mastermind GT with a single MIDI cable - no separate power supply needed
  • More than one Mastermind GT can be connected together and used in multiple locations on stage
  • Jacks to connect four expression pedals and four external switches allow for lots of control over connected effects processors and other MIDI devices
  • Two auxilliary 9VDC power outlets for tuner, wah pedal, etc
  • USB support for direct connection to a PC or Mac
  • USB thumb drive input allows you to save and restore settings to a thumb drive
  • Editor software for PC and Mac
  • Advanced on-board editing capability which makes this controller very easy to program, even without using the editor software
  • Built for the rigors of the road with high quality components throughout

    GT-22

The GT-22 is an excellent piece of gear - well engineered. Its only limited by your imagination. It takes a min to get oriented but once you work through some of the menus its very intuitive. Nice work RJM!

    GT22 with Axe-FX3

Posted by Adrian Grobler on Apr 14th 2019

I was a little nervous about stepping away from my MFC101 with FASLink (which anyone can setup/configure) and taking on the GT22, but I was very very surprised at how easy the GT22 has been to setup with my Axe-FX3. RJM have managed to simplify the setup so that anyone can do it, whether you are a MIDI expert or not (I'm in the latter group). I managed to program my GT22 to do more than my MFC in less than an hour of switching it on!
The workflow of this machine is absolutely brilliant! I have played live with it twice and it gives me so much more confidence whilst playing because there is less to 'think' or 'worry' about when on stage in front of a large crowd - you have so much control at your feet.
The build quality is great, it feels like it will last a very long time (as long as you don't spill a beer on it)!
Product support via the forum and direct messages with Ron have been outstanding, I feel very looked after and yet I have't had to ask too many questions as it was so easy to understand.
I am very, very pleased with my purchase, it is definitely worth the extra money!

    RJM MMGT/22

Posted by Rick Park on May 1st 2018

I have been a Fractal Audio Systems player since 2011, or 7 years at the time of this writing. I am currently setting up an Axe FX III for gigging, and also own an AX8 and Avid ElevenRack. Through most of my digital modeling and other midi experience, I have either used controllers native to the items, of used Digital Systems (eventually Voodoo Labs) Ground Control units until swapping to Fractal's MFC-101 about 5 years ago. I have had two, and they were excellent units with the Axe FX series.

With the new Axe FX III, a completely new setup has come with the new units, and the MFC-101 will no longer work as natively as it did with the II. A new series of controllers is in the works, but unavailable. This is how I came to once again reconsider the MMGT... something I'd written off as too expensive in the past.

After extensive research, including speaking with many MMGT users, and coming to the conclusion that RJM is similar to FAS in customer commitment, and with no FAS FC launch in sight, I decided I would test the waters. Well, let me say, I am glad I did.

This is, easily, the most capable and flexible midi controller I have ever used. The variety of connections, the quality of fit and finish, and levels and depth of control are amazing. I actually feel like I did when first discovering the Axe FX, and that is high praise indeed. And on even the simplest questions, the immediate support from the makers exceeds everything I have experienced in this business except Fractal Audio.

It would be impossible to actually explain every facet of this in a review. But you should know that the MMGT and its editor are logically laid out, with a huge array of settings and capabilities, and is as easy to program as something this capable can possibly be. Not for the faint of heart, maybe, but then if you didn't have the need you wouldn't be looking at water this clear and deep to begin with, would you?

Finally, price: I still say it's expensive. But not over-priced. For what you're buying, built to this quality, with this kind of support, it is very reasonably priced. Like the Axe FX units, quality doesn't come cheaply. But if you rely on a controller for your musical reputation, then it is a good value. I am happy I purchased mine, and am now building my performance rig with it as an integral control hub of the system. I recommend it.
